Sacred Kingfisher

In the last couple of months a male sacred kingfisher has frequented the small silky oak growing about four metres from my front deck. In a fork of the tree there is an abandoned termite nest (visible in the photo) to which the kingfisher tries to attract the female. He calls loudly and does a few renovations to the nest with any wet soil available. A couple of females have turned up but seem to reject the accommodation, probably because it’s too close to my house and cat for comfort. I have very much enjoyed its presence.
