Eucalyptus citriodora, two sides of the one tree

Believe it or not this is the same tree trunk photographed at the same time (5.00pm 26 February). It is the west and east sides of the very tall trunk of that wonderful stately E. citriodora growing in front of the council building in Herries Street. The east facing side is very dimpled and pock-marked with dark bits of bark clinging, while the west side is completely smooth and clean! Wonder how often and why this happens!
